Seeing gorillas in the wild has always been very high on my wish list. That is why I flew to Kigali in Rwanda. There I bought a permit from the Rwanda Development Board to visit the mountain gorillas. But first I spent a few days in Kigali so that I had the chance to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, which made a deep impression.

Then I travelled to the Volcanoes National Park for the highlight of the trip, the gorillas! With a group I made a trip through the dense jungle to visit the Amahoro family. In addition to the silverback gorilla, this family also had younger gorillas, very cool to see.

Before I went back to Kigali I spent a few days at Lake Kivu in Gisenyi. Unfortunately, a visit to the active volcano near Goma across the border in Congo was not possible due to unrest in this neighbouring country.
